About REC

The Rural Empowerment and Capacitation (REC) project was created to support and value young people living in rural areas, encouraging their active role in the sustainable development of their communities. Through an integrated approach, the project aims to strengthen young people's personal, social and professional skills, while promoting entrepreneurship, innovation and economic, social and environmental sustainability in rural Europe.

Developed under the Erasmus+ Programme (Key Action 220 – Cooperation Partnerships in Youth), REC is a collaboration between four organizations from different European countries: Omni Cooperation Association (Portugal), Phoenix Association (Ukraine), Sof Dağı Gençlik ve Spor Kulübü Derneği (Turkey) and BIRDIE – Institute for Inclusive Economy and Sustainable Development (Croatia). This partnership creates a network of shared practices, experiences and methods that help empower young people and revitalize rural territories.

The project focuses on the so-called “sustainability triangle”, economic, social and environmental, recognizing that the future of rural communities depends on their ability to create job opportunities, preserve the environment and promote social cohesion. To achieve this, REC proposes a set of training activities, local sessions and international exchanges, all leading to the creation of this Guide to Sustainability and Rural Development.
